    Generic Product in Product Catalog

    A Generic Product is used when the same product is sold repeatedly, but creating multiple individual products or SKUs is unnecessary.
    In this model, inventory tracking, pricing, and taxation are fully maintained, while billing is simplified by reusing the same product and SKU.

    Generic products are especially useful for fast-moving items where frequent product creation slows down daily operations.


    Business Purpose

    Generic Products are created to:

    • Reduce repeated product creation
    • Save time during daily operations
    • Maintain proper inventory tracking
    • Reuse the same product and SKU for repeated billing
    • Enable faster POS, Agent App, and Backoffice billing
    • Support high-volume sales environments

    Inventory accuracy is preserved while operational effort is reduced.


    Inventory Tracking

    Generic Products DO support inventory tracking.

    • Stock quantity is maintained as usual
    • Each sale updates inventory correctly
    • Reports, stock history, and valuation remain accurate
    • Only product creation effort is reduced, not tracking quality

    The difference lies in SKU reuse, not inventory control.

    How to Create a Generic Product

    Navigation Path

    O2VEND Backoffice → Catalog → Create Product → Generic


    Creation Steps

    1. Open Catalog in O2VEND Backoffice.
    2. Click Create Product.
    3. Select Generic as the product type.
    4. Enter the Product Name (example: Plain Gold Ring – Generic).
    5. Assign a single SKU to be reused.
    6. Configure pricing, tax, and inventory settings.
    7. Save the product.

    This single product can now be reused for multiple bills without repeated creation.


    When to Use a Generic Product

    A Generic Product is suitable when:

    • The product is fast-moving
    • Same item is sold repeatedly
    • Inventory tracking is required
    • Creating multiple SKUs adds operational overhead
    • Speed and efficiency are business priorities

    In a jewellery shop, certain items are fast-moving and repetitive in nature.
